The Eterna Matic (model 1948) Triple Date draws directly from the grand yet heralded lineage the brand was built upon. Just shy of a century after establishing the brand, Eterna redefined the history of watchmaking by unveiling the ball-bearing movement in 1948. This revolutionised the watch world as it was the introduction of the self-winding watch, a true automatic. It was said that “It is to watchmaking what jet propulsion was to aviation”. This gorgeous example of 1948 is the triple date, a truly luxurious iteration of Eternas 1948 lineup.
Featuring the solid 18 carat gold case at a handsome 34 millimetres, it sits elegantly on the wrist. The dial is a period-correct bone colour with the day and month windows displayed at 11 o’clock and 1 o’clock. Gold-coloured Arabic hour indicators decorate the dial inside the annular date markers around the edge of the dial. Complete with solid 18 carat gold case back and Eterna branded crown, the 1948 triple date presents as a real treasure.
It’s not every day you get the luxury of wearing a true piece of horological history from a brand over 170 years old. Make no mistake, the Eterna Matic 1948 triple date on the leather strap says everything you need to know, take a walk back in time and try it on for yourself.
Vintage, good working order. Keeping time.
