Cartier, a fashion powerhouse originating in 1847, has gifted the world some of the most unique, eclectic, and fascinating pieces of jewellery. Not only this, but Cartier is responsible for the first example of the pilot’s watch, the Cartier Santos Dumont, which saw flight in 1906. This incredible feat saw Cartier enter the world of horology and continue producing pieces that are still cherished to this day.

Inspired by the Renault Tanks in WW1, a French Jeweller took the most prominent characteristic of a tank and integrated it into a timepiece. This is how the first generation of Cartier Tank (Normale) came to be. The name is self-explanatory although the case of the Tank resembles the tracks of a Renault Tank.

This particular Cartier Tank is the successor to the Tank Normale, known as the Tank Louis. Carrying over the instantly recognisable Art Deco heritage of Normale, we see the Roman numeral hour markers featured with the date window at 3 o’clock. The 18-carat yellow gold case is perfectly proportioned. With a size of 25 millimetres, it wears wonderfully either casually or formally. Perfect fit is ensured as this piece comes with the original bourbon brown Cartier leather band with its solid 18 carat Cartier buckle.
